A BAAITS Two Spirit Master Artist Workshop

Two Saturdays: Nov 18 AND Dec 9

(Participants are committing to attend both classes)

-Description:  In this class we want to offer the basic steps to starting any beadwork  project for all skill levels. Whether this be your first time ever  beading or if you'd like to refine what skills in beadwork you might  already have. We invite you to our 2 part workshop series to learn more  about Indigenous beadwork and culture.

All supplies will be  provided and space is limited, and if you are currently working on a  beadwork project feel free to bring your works for any advice or tips.  We look forward to seeing you.

-Project Options: Earrings, Medallion, or Bracelet/Cuff.

~~

All materials for the art projects will be provided. You may want to bring something to take notes.

With participants approval, parts of the day together recorded and documented.

Food  and drink will be served. There are no cost for this event! BAAITS  programming is made possible by our generous financial supporters. To  donate to BAAITS, please visit BAAITS.ORG.

This two part Beading  Workshop is the last of our sessions with Two Spirit and IndigeQueer  Artists & Culture Bearers where our guests share their gift of  artistry and medicine with other members of our BAAITS community through  in-person master workshops.

Our Artist Master Workshop series and  all our BAAITS programming are created by and for Indigenous Two Spirit  & Indigequeer TG/GNC LGBQIA+ peoples, and we ask everyone to be  respectful of this focus.

Please follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Eventbrite to receive notices of our upcoming programming.

Bay  Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) exists to restore and recover  the role of Two-Spirit people within the American Indian/First Nations  community by creating a forum for the spiritual, cultural and artistic  expression of Two-Spirit people.

Bio:

Sean Snyder is  an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, as well as a descendant of the  Southern Ute tribe. His maternal side comes from Navajo Mountain, Utah  and paternal side comes from the White Mesa, Utah.

Adrian Matthias Stevens also known as “A.D.’ comes from San Carlos Apache, Northern Ute, and  Shoshone Bannock tribes. He was raised in Fort Duchesne, Utah on the  Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation with his mother’s people.

Sean  and Adrian have been raised in the pow wow circle since they could  walk, and have earned several championship titles in their dance  categories. Both of their families participate in pow wows all across  Indian Country and have made a lot of friendships that spread all across  the U.S. and Canada.  Some of you may recognize them from their short  documentary “Sweetheart Dancers”, a short 15 minute film highlighting  when they were disqualified from a Couples Contest in 2017. This film  has traveled to many different film festivals, including Lubee Film  Festival where it won ‘Best Short”.

They have since gone on to  bring more recognition to the Two Spirit Community with their  featured  articles in People Magazine, Indian Country Today, Powwows.com, Vogue,   CNN, and Human Rights campaign.

Most recently Sean and Adrian  have worked on campaigns with Nike, Skyy Vodka and two OUT Magazines  editorial. Also winning several ribbons for their beadwork at the Annual  Santa Fe Indian market in 2022 and 2023.

This couple has  traveled extensively throughout Indian Country Speaking at higher  education events, including a keynote for the Human Rights Campaign.  Sean and Adrian are thankful for their supporters that encourage them to  do their  advocacy work, and all the Two Spirit allies that create a  safe sacred space for these events to take place.
